About Greater Cape Township Project

Project Details

The Greater Cape Town Township Projects are based in the Somerset West and Strand areas.

All of the Township Projects aim at the development of some, if not all of the following:

  • 1) Crèche support: The main problem with the crèches in these areas are the shortage of staff, unhygienic facilities, no space for the children to play and the mixture of toddlers and babies makes it impossible to follow a specific programme and to do activities to stimulate them. The Projects provides support, guidance, training and volunteers to the crèches.
  • 2) Computer Literacy: To educate children about computer technology and teach them basic PC skills.
  • 3) Sport Activities: Pre primary and Primary  School children get the chance to express themselves through sport. Different types of sport are presented to the children, for example athletics and long distance running, soccer rugby, basketball etc. Through participation in sport activities the children are encouraged to develop healthy and lasting relationships thus steering clear of harmful activities such as involvement in gangs, drugs and alcohol abuse. Their involvement also helps promote a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
  • 4) Feeding Schemes
  • 5) Empowerment of Women

Accommodation

Volunteers are accommodated in the WTSA volunteer house or any of our town apartments which are fully furnished with all modern conveniences.  The accommodation is located in good and safe areas with complete security and within walking distance to the Somerset West CBD, shops, pubs and restaurants.
