What interesting fact did you learn today/this week?
That zebra stripes and cheetah spots are unique to them like a human's finger prints. Also that mother elephants leave their young with the males and go! Chameleons walk across the road mimicking a leaf that is being blown about in the breeze so they blend in from prey and they have black spots on their backs when they are in a scary situation. We saw one crossing the road and the black marks were there, so it must have been scary for it.
Impala can give birth pretty much the same day they conceived and the herd give birth all together. Also, the babies can walk pretty much straight away and can be as fast as their mothers within 8 minutes of being born. I also learnt that there are 100,000 muscles in an elephant's trunk!
How does South Africa differ from your home country?
Very different from England. Warmer for a start, wildlife in their natual habitat, people are extremely friendly and polite and compared to England, the prices are cheap for this in the shops and eating places. Seeing many variety of different insects and wildlife and the SIZE of them too. In England we just see foxes in the street.
It is good to be out in the bush and seeing the different wildlife.
