Journal Entry: Martina Blanc - Switzerland - 2012-05-22

What was your personal highlight of the day/week?

My personal highlight was on my first deep dive. The visibility on this day wasn't too good and we didn't see a lot, but almost at the end of the dive a huge manta ray appeared. First he was just a shadow but then he came closer and took his circles around us, it was awesome!

What interesting fact did you learn today/this week?

I learned so much about diving and sea life in this last week. I can't choose just one fact, because every day I discover and learn new things.

What was your favourite species that you saw today/this week?

My favourite species is definitely the manta ray that I saw, but of course I also love the turtles, anemonefish and the many types of nudibranchs (small, colourful sea slugs).

How does South Africa differ from your home country?

SA is completely different from my home country. The people, the nature, the animals, the weather, the towns, absolutely everything. But the most awesome thing here in SA is the night sky, I love how I can see the Milky Way. I will miss it so much when I’m back home.

Are you enjoying your camp accommodation?

My accommodation here in Sodwana Bay is great. I live in a lovely lodge with everything you need and more. We have a big kitchen, a pool, an office, a TV room, a gear room and more. The lodge gets cleaned by the staff and is always nice and tidy.
